The short version: Yappng turns your speech into text on your own computer. Your audio and your words are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Never leaves your computer: your microphone audio, your transcribed text, and what you type into which apps.
Leaves your computer only when needed: an anonymous device ID for licensing, and ordinary downloads of speech models and updates. Details below.
Audio and transcriptions
Speech is turned into text on your device by the speech model Yappng downloaded. Audio is held in memory only while it's being transcribed and is never written to disk or uploaded. Yappng keeps your last few transcriptions in memory so you can recopy them from the menu, and forgets them when you quit.
Licensing and the free tier
To count free transcriptions and to activate a license, the app sends our licensing service an anonymous device ID. That ID is a one-way hash of your computer's hardware ID and can't be turned back into it. With a license, the app also sends your license key. No audio, text, file names or app names are ever included.
Purchases
Payments go through Polar, which uses Stripe. They handle your payment details and email address so they can send you your license key. We never see your card number.
Downloads and updates
Speech models download from Hugging Face, and app updates are checked for and downloaded from GitHub. Like any download, those services can see your IP address.

This site doesn't use cookies, advertising trackers or third-party analytics. Fonts load from Google Fonts.
Your rights
Since we don't hold your audio or text, there's nothing of that kind to export or delete. To ask about purchase or license records, or to have them deleted, email [email protected].
