Nothing happens when I hold the key (Mac)
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security. Make sure Yappng is turned on under Accessibility and Microphone, then quit Yappng and open it again. If you updated recently, turn Accessibility off and back on.
Nothing happens when I hold the key (Windows)
Check that the Yappng icon is in the system tray (it may be hidden behind the ^ arrow). If you set Yappng up to use the Windows key, some apps grab that key first, so try the default Right Ctrl instead.
"Windows protected your PC"
Click More info, then Run anyway. Windows shows that for apps from new independent developers.
The first transcription is slow
The first time you use Yappng, it downloads and loads a speech model of about 1.5 GB. After that, transcription starts within a moment. On computers without a capable graphics chip, choose the Light or Lightest model in Settings.
It typed the wrong thing
Try the Balanced or Most Accurate model, use a headset mic in noisy rooms, and pause briefly before you let go of the key. If characters come out jumbled in one particular app, switch the input method to Clipboard (paste) in Settings.
